Tansi Atawiyah:

Dear Pakan Students, Parents, Guardians, we have missed the kids the past few months and hope the fall finds us back in our classrooms. Covid has taught us that we are social beings and this has been a part of education that we as teachers crave. In the 2020-2021 school year we are looking at many different scenarios as to how best serve our students educationally. Covid is now a factor in the health of our students, staff, parents and elders and we will take every precaution to preserve our Covid free status. This will change our classroom spacing, our food programs, our old ways of operating.

Teachers have been diligent with developing new ways of delivering programs online, these will be used extensively and ongoing next fall. This forced break allowed us to update some of our programs to better serve our students going forward. In the event we have to offer online we are prepared to do this as a part of our educational programming.

Some of the ways we will maintain our social distancing is to provide a program that facilitates all learning strands and provides our students with practical skills… Pakan will be developing programming in a collaborative effort with Vilna to enhance the Outdoor ed opportunities for both of our schools. Allowing students, the ability to learn in an experiential focussed manner lends itself to greater retention. Many learning opportunities present themselves Outdoors and this allows teacher to teach hands-on methods of Math, Science, Art, Language arts and Social studies.

We will continue to provide our cultural programming in the fall and are in the planning for our annual pow-wow, held in September. Cultural camp is also in its planning stages to introduce foods to our students in its traditional manner of preparation. We will keep you updated!!

Covid created many new ways of working. Working from home, working online, online meetings etc. Not everyone had those type of options and staff continued to work through out the pandemic and for this reason I have to applaud and give thanks to our Education staff from Pakan and for those staff that continued to tutor through it all. Your dedication shines and is appreciated by those Goodfish and Whitefish kids Many thanks going to all the staff at Pakan for their continued commitment to the students and community. Staff throughout the spring prepared packages, volunteered with the food hamper preparation, delivering educational packages and generally whatever was asked of them. A great Team effort. A great Team. Ay hiy

Watch your mailbox as report cards are delivered in the next few days…

To the Community of Whitefish Lake, We will continue to serve the students of Pakan to the best of our ability as educators, counsellors, support staff, parents, mohsoms, and kohkums.
